A Visit From Grandpa Bell

Several times a year my dad comes into town and our kids love it.He is very unique and always has new and fun things to do . . . like taking the kids hiking in the mountains or letting Payton help finish one of my dad's recent paintings (he's an artist and high school art teacher). Here are some photos from his visit a few weeks ago.

A Wicked Birthday in "Frisco"

Well, as usual, Skyler planned an awesome birthday celebration for me. I really appreciate him so much and wonder how he continues to come up with so many fun ideas - I just hope he doesn't think I am growing to expect it. Anyway, on the morning of my birthday, Sky let me sleep in. I didn't wake up until Sky and the kids came into the bedroom carrying a plate of heart-shaped pancakes with candles in them singing Happy Birthday. Then Payton said, "Guess what, Mommy? Grandma Barker is coming so you and Daddy can go on a special trip today!) SURPRISE!"

We flew into the Oakland airport. After settling in at the San Francisco Hilton, we got a bite to eat at a French restaurant and then went to see Wicked at the Orpheum Theater. The theater was incredible, the talent brilliant, and the show breathtaking (at least now that I'm constantly belting out all the songs and trying to hold the notes as long as they did). Because we had both been to San Fran before, we didn't feel rushed in our sightseeing and shopping (read: we slept in till noon).

Some other highlights of the trip include Skyler getting a pedicure with me in Fisherman's Wharf, fresh produce at the Farmer's Market (where Skyler ate the "best piece of fruit ever"), and a drunken sailboat ride around San Francisco Bay and into the Pacific Ocean. And by drunken I mean the captain, Sky and I were the only sober ones on the boat. But it provided for some great entertainment.

I was grateful to return home to a clean house and well-taken-care-of kids. A special thanks to Gail for coming into town to be with our kids, and to the Curtis' for helping out as well.

Bug Party

Every week Karli hosts a playgroup for a small group of friends who find a time, location and activity that suits everyone. Last week the kids had a "Bug Party," complete with worm pudding, egg-carton caterpillars, and a digging expedition in the sandbox. They even got to play in the rain!

Who knew popsicles taste better when wearing goggles? Payton did.

Listening for Brooklyn on the other end.

Do you like it?

I typically like long hair. I haven't been shy in telling Kar that, but she had finally had it: long, super thick and curly does not make for a happy combination. So the other day she got it cut. I love it. She loves it sometimes and has cutter's remorse sometimes. I keep telling her she's hot, and I think she'll come around. What do you think?

Kid Pics

New Toy

We've talked about it for more than 3 years, but we finally pulled the trigger on a new camera -- a Nikon SLR. We got a killer deal, too. I've never really been into photography (other than I like looking at good photos, I was a TA for a few photog classes in HS, and I secretly dream of being good at it some day), but this new camera has given me a new hobby. I love it. Here are just a few of the first shots with the new camera (kids pics soon to follow).

Easter in St. George

Kar and the kids went on another annual trip -- Easter in St. George with the Curtis clan. Here are pics from the egg hunt (where Brooke kept stealing Payton's candy and toys from his basket), a hike, and a fun afternoon at the park.
