Well, as usual, Skyler planned an awesome birthday celebration for me. I really appreciate him so much and wonder how he continues to come up with so many fun ideas - I just hope he doesn't think I am growing to expect it. Anyway, on the morning of my birthday, Sky let me sleep in. I didn't wake up until Sky and the kids came into the bedroom carrying a plate of heart-shaped pancakes with candles in them singing Happy Birthday. Then Payton said, "Guess what, Mommy? Grandma Barker is coming so you and Daddy can go on a special trip today!) SURPRISE!"
We flew into the Oakland airport. After settling in at the San Francisco Hilton, we got a bite to eat at a French restaurant and then went to see Wicked at the Orpheum Theater. The theater was incredible, the talent brilliant, and the show breathtaking (at least now that I'm constantly belting out all the songs and trying to hold the notes as long as they did). Because we had both been to San Fran before, we didn't feel rushed in our sightseeing and shopping (read: we slept in till noon).
Some other highlights of the trip include Skyler getting a pedicure with me in Fisherman's Wharf, fresh produce at the Farmer's Market (where Skyler ate the "best piece of fruit ever"), and a drunken sailboat ride around San Francisco Bay and into the Pacific Ocean. And by drunken I mean the captain, Sky and I were the only sober ones on the boat. But it provided for some great entertainment.
I was grateful to return home to a clean house and well-taken-care-of kids. A special thanks to Gail for coming into town to be with our kids, and to the Curtis' for helping out as well.
